Kallangur homes and what they need
Kallangur is an inland suburb of the City of Moreton Bay, not a coastal one. Moreton Bay itself is several kilometres east across the highway, so salt air is not a factor for pipes and hot water units here. What does matter is the age and type of the housing.
The suburb grew through the twentieth century along the old road to the Redcliffe peninsula, so the streets around Anzac Avenue and Old Gympie Road have homes that are now several decades old. Houses of that age can still have their original galvanised or copper water pipes, earthenware sewer lines that tree roots get into, and hot water systems well past their expected life. Those are the jobs we see most in the older part of the suburb.
The other side of Kallangur is new. Development in the northern growth corridor and around Kallangur railway station, which opened in 2016 on the Redcliffe Peninsula line, has added townhouses and unit complexes with compact plumbing, shared drainage and hot water units squeezed into small cupboards or external recesses.
