Repair or replace?

- An older-style tap drips: a new washer usually fixes it
- The washer keeps failing: the seat is worn and can be reground or replaced
- A mixer drips or is stiff: the cartridge is replaceable on most brands
- The handle is cracked but the body is sound

Why a dripping tap is worth fixing now
A tap leaking at around 60 drops a minute loses about 9,000 litres a year. Two or three of them add a noticeable amount to a water bill. A tap that will not close fully also puts the hot water system through more cycles than it should.
A worn tap can also bang the pipes, a sign of water hammer, and a slow leak under a sink that goes unnoticed rots the cabinet before the drip is found. Fixing the tap is the cheap end of that sequence.

Can I replace a tap washer myself?
On an older-style tap, yes, if you turn the water off at the meter first and have the right washer. If the tap still drips afterwards, the seat is worn and needs regrinding, which is a plumber's job.
Do you supply the taps?
We carry standard tapware on the van and can supply a range of mixers. If you have chosen a specific tap, check the model with us so the fitting suits the sink or basin.
Why does my tap bang when I turn it off?
Water hammer, usually a worn tap washer, high pressure or a loose pipe. The tap is the first thing to check and often the fix.
Do you replace toilet cisterns?
Yes. Inlet valves, outlet washers and flush buttons are repaired, and cisterns and pans replaced when they are cracked or obsolete.
