Requirements for a gas cooktop in Queensland
In Queensland, installing, connecting, modifying or disconnecting gas pipework and appliances is licensed gas work. It cannot legally be done by a homeowner or a general handyman, and work that is not done under licence is not certifiable or insurable. Every gas installation is pressure tested and certified on completion, and the certificate is part of the job.
A cooktop also has to sit with the correct clearances to combustible surfaces and rangehoods, with ventilation to suit, and the flexible hose is inspected and replaced if it is past its five-year service life. We check all of that before the appliance is connected.

Tell us the appliance or the fault. If you smell gas, turn it off at the meter or bottle, open the windows and call from outside.

The gas fitter checks whether the line can carry the new appliance, or tests the system to find the leak.

You get the price before pipe is run or a fitting is replaced.

Test, certify, hand over
The installation is pressure tested and a certificate of compliance is issued for gas work in Queensland. You are shown the isolation valve before we leave.
Questions answered
Can a handyman connect my gas cooktop?
No. Connecting a gas appliance is licensed gas work in Queensland, and an installation that is not certified is not insurable.
I have LPG bottles. Can I use a natural gas cooktop?
Only after it is converted with the right jets and regulator, which is licensed work, or replaced with an LPG model. We check which is cheaper for your appliance.
Do you supply the cooktop?
We can install a cooktop you have bought or advise on models before you buy. Either way, check the model with us first so the connection and clearances suit it.
How long does the installation take?
A like-for-like swap is usually done in an hour or two. Running a new gas line takes longer and is priced after the route is assessed.
